Yoichi 45% | 15 | Japan | 6 | 1 | 0 | 84 | Fruity, flowery, oaky nose with notes of citrus, elderflower, cocoa and a hint of wood smoke, complex, fascinating, really nice; sweet, smooth palate with oak, citrus and cocoa again, rather nice yet a bit too flowery and it develops a disturbing buttery note; disappointing, flowery finish; all in all it has an interesting complexity but it's a bit splintered
Yoichi 52% | 20 | Japan | 6 | 1 | 0? | 87 | Very nice nose with oak, vanilla and a hint of smoke; rich yet fairly dry palate, also a little bitter and musty; all in all it's unusual and interesting with lots of flavours but it lacks balance
Yellow Spot 46% * | 12 | Pot Still/ Ireland | 3 | 0 | 1 | 86 | Fragrant, fruity, fresh nose with notes of apricot, oak shavings, linseed oil and créme caramel. Also a hint of Trinidad rum. Complex but not entirely balanced. The palate is hot but with a drop of water it's light, sweet and smooth. Complex and nicely balanced with notes of custard and orange. Develops oak and a note of marzipan. Very nice! The finish has a bit of oak and a note of vanilla but it short and disappointing. All in all it's uneven and a bit splintered. (Aged in bourbon, sherry and Malaga casks)
Yamazaki Sherry Cask 48% | Japan | 7 | 0 | 8 | 90 | € 80 | 44 | Wonderful nose with sherry, vanilla and hints of coconut and turpentine; rich yet fairly dry palate, at first spicy with gingerbread then develops dried fruits and honey; quite oaky but with a nice balance between oak and sherry
Yamazaki | 10 | Japan | 3 | 0 | 0 | 87 | € 30 | 65 | Very nice nose with oak, vanilla and citrus, also a little flowery; light, clean palate (über-clean in fact), smooth and sweet, develops spices
Yamazaki | 12 | Japan | 5 | 0 | 0 | 87 | € 49 | 40 | Wonderful, fragrant nose with notes of tropical fruits, vanilla and oak; nice, sweet, oaky palate; clean and nicely balanced but just a little too oaky
Yamazaki | 18 | Japan | 7 | 2 | 3 | 89 | € 109 | 24 | Wonderful nose with vanilla, dried fruit and a yummy note of peat; rich, fruity, oaky, quite dry palate - rather nice but doesn't deliver what the nose promises
Yacht Club | Blend/ Scotland | 5 | 2 | 1-2? | 69 | A bit young and slightly confusing at first; fairly sweet/fruity with a bit of liqourice, a nice peaty element and a nice light finish
Woodford Reserve batch 8 45.2% | Bourbon/ KY/USA | 7 | 1 | 0 | 89 | € 32 | 91 | Wonderful nose with vanilla and peppermint, also bitter notes from the rye; very nice, rich, complex palate with marzipan and a hint of smoke
Woodford Reserve batch 70 43.2% | Bourbon/ KY/USA | 7 | 0 | 0 | 88 | € 35 | 69 | Huge nose with oak and linseed oil but also surprisingly complex with nice notes of vanilla, marzipan, allspice and orange marmalade. Nice but a bit rough around the edges. The palate is quite oaky but surprisingly smooth. Rich with notes of mint and vanilla. Nice heat. Oaky, dry finish (disappointing). All in all powerful yet complex, rather nice but uneven. |
