Laphroaig Quarter Cask 48% | Islay | 6 | 8 | 0 | 87 | € 34 | 69 | Peaty nose with very nice fruity notes; unusual palate with a nice fruitiness; quite medicinal finish; seems younger than the 10 y.o. but adds interesting flavours (best without water)
Blanton's Special Reserve 40% | Bourbon/ KY/USA | 5 | 0 | 0 | 86 | € 25 | 69 | Very nice fragrant nose with vanilla, passion fruit, orange and oak shavings. Also notes of cereal and linseed oil. Rich, sweet palate with orange and vanilla. Fairly dry yet nice finish with citrus, vanilla and oak, also a little musty. All in all nice but rather mild (perhaps a little weak at 40%).
Maker's Mark 45% * | Bourbon/ KY/USA | 6 | 0 | 0 | 84 | € 22 | 67 | Fragrant nose with nice notes of vanilla, apricot, peach, almonds and oak. Fairly prickly however, but mellows with a little water. Powerful, fruity, zesty palate. Also oaky, fairly dry and slightly earthy. With water it's milder, sweeter and richer. Nice, oaky, spicy finish with a note of mint. A bit hot at 45% but with a drop of water it's an easy drinking session bourbon.
Tomintoul | 10 | Speyside | 4 | 0 | 0 | 86 | € 26 | 66 | Pleasant, refreshing nose with orange marmalade, custard, also lemon and hints of mint and oak; mild, light, balanced palate with citrus, fairly sweet, creamy, not much going on but it's clean, very enjoyable and more-ish; dry, slightly disappointing finish
Ardbeg 46% * | 10 | Islay | 6 | 8 | 0 | 87 | € 35 | 65 | Sweet, very peaty with a note of rubber which fades into light floral notes; quite nice but on the whole a bit rough; the peat provides a very nice finish though (bottled ~2004)
Yamazaki | 10 | Japan | 3 | 0 | 0 | 87 | € 30 | 65 | Very nice nose with oak, vanilla and citrus, also a little flowery; light, clean palate (über-clean in fact), smooth and sweet, develops spices
Glenrothes (Cad) 53.8% | 1994 15 | Speyside | 3 | 0 | 0 | 89 | € 55 | 63 | Very nice nose: light and fresh with notes of vanilla, mint, apple, oak and cinnamon; light, clean, subtle palate, sweet and fruity, develops spices and oak, then citrus at the end, complex and beautifully balanced; nice oaky finish; smooth and more-ish (I usually find Glenrothes too sweet but this one is just right!)
Glen Garioch 48% * | 12 | E Highland | 6 | 2 | 2 | 87 | € 38 | 62 | Nice fruity, malty nose, young and zesty with orange marmalade, also a little oaky with note of peat. Rich, sweet palate with notes of honey and citrus. Also malty, oaky and spicy with a hint of añejo tequila. Fresh and rather nice. All in all it's a little unpolished but fresh and enjoyable (and very good value).
Bowmore | 12 | Islay | 6 | 6 | 2 | 87 | € 32 | 61 | Strange nose but quite a nice palate; smoky, fairly rich, fairly sweet and a little flowery with a very nice, malty, peaty finish; (nicer, peatier and less flowery than a few years ago)
