Fahrenheit 173 - Whisky

"The king o' drinks, as I conceive it, Talisker, Isla or Glenlivit"   (R.L. Stevenson)

St. Andrew's day whisky dinner

 30 Nov 2006

Diageo Switzerland organize a whisky dinner as part of their bi-annual "Whisky Festival". On Thursday I attended this whisky dinner for the first time and I was really impressed! The food was excellent and so were the whiskies. The pairing of food and whisky was of course what most interested me and the dinner gave me a real eye-opener. The first two courses worked fantastically well with the whisky. The cheese and Talisker combination was pretty good but the sweetness of the crème brûlée made the Dalwhinnie seem a bit dull. All in all however, an excellent event!

The meal consisted of:

Smoked herring, cress and horseradish sauce - Caol Ila Distiller's Edition

Roast lamb with herbs and potato purée - Clynelish Distiller's Edition

Blue cheese and hard cheese - Talisker 25 y.o.

Crème brûlée - Dalwhinnie 29 y.o.
