Eagle Rare Single Barrel 45% | 10 | Bourbon/ KY/USA | 6 | 0 | 0 | 89 | € 38 | 76 | Fragrant nose with vanilla, oak, ginger, apricot and orange. Fruity iced tea. Nice! The palate is fairly rich and sweet with notes of vanilla, oak and caramelized sugar. Develops nice fruity notes of orange and peach, also mint. Drying, develops oak and a note of lemon. The finish is oaky, peppery and fairly hot. Warming. All in all balanced and very nice. (Doesn't need water but a drop won't hurt.)
Finlaggan Old Reserve | Islay | 6 | 8 | 0 | 87 | € 26 | 76 | Rich, fruity, peaty but also a little rubbery nose; rich, sweet, powerful palate with a contrasting light, fresh minty note - very nice!
Glenlivet | 12 | Speyside | 4 | 0 | 0 | 87 | € 26 | 76 | Lovely, fragrant nose with notes of vanilla, clementine and oak, also a hint of aniseed; mild, sweet, very nice palate with citrus fruits, vanilla and a note of mint; light, smooth and eminently drinkable; short finish though
Lagavulin | 16 | Islay | 7 | 8 | 0 | 91 | € 45 | 74 | Sweet, fruity and very smoky but it seems mild thanks to the excellent balance; the finish is long, warming and wonderful
Clynelish 46% * | 14 | N Highland | 6 | 2 | 0 | 88 | € 35 | 74 | Lovely, fragrant nose with orange-flavoured candy, coconut, honey and a note of peat; yummy palate - creamy, fruity, zesty, spicy and to top it off, also a little peaty
Redbreast Pure Pot Still 46% | 15 | Pot Still/ Ireland | 7 | 0 | 92 | € 60 | 73 | The nose is a little prickly but has very nice notes of vanilla, peach, oak and marzipan. Very nice palate: intensely fruity with peach and apricot, also oaky. The finish has amazing, concentrated fruity notes (mostly peach), also oak, then marzipan and mint at the end. One of the best finishes I've ever experienced. It's a little hot but best without water. (L5308)
Van Winkle Handmade Bourbon 53.5% | 15 | Bourbon/ KY/USA | 7 | 0 | 0 | 92 | € 70 | 73 | Wonderful, fragrant nose with notes of vanilla, caramel, almonds; rich, sweet, a little spicy and very nice palate (purchased 2003)
Lagavulin (Sign) 58.4% | 5 | Islay | 7 | 9 | 0 | 86 | € 35 | 72 | Very peaty and quite sweet palate with fresh, vibrant flavours; wonderful, very peaty finish (holds its own against malts twice its age!)
Chivas Regal | 12 | Blend/ Scotland | 4 | 2 | 3 | 86 | € 24 | 72 | Weak nose with faint but nice notes of grain whisky, toffee, citrus and oak; mild, sweet, balanced palate with dried fruits (sherry wood), also peat, develops oak and spices; oaky, spicy, slightly peaty finish; a very nicely balanced, easy drinking Scotch (much nicer than a few years ago)
Woodford Reserve batch 70 43.2% | Bourbon/ KY/USA | 7 | 0 | 0 | 88 | € 35 | 69 | Huge nose with oak and linseed oil but also surprisingly complex with nice notes of vanilla, marzipan, allspice and orange marmalade. Nice but a bit rough around the edges. The palate is quite oaky but surprisingly smooth. Rich with notes of mint and vanilla. Nice heat. Oaky, dry finish (disappointing). All in all powerful yet complex, rather nice but uneven. |
